Members Only received another update this week, with the release of v1.2.0. This update brings support for Mailchimp, allowing members to be automatically added to a Mailchimp mailing list when they sign up for a membership.
I initially built the “Mailchimp Connector” as a separate plugin. That model comes with some benefits, like keeping the core Members Only plugin leaner. But, ultimately I decided the separate plugin introduced more complexity for customers, and complexity is something I’m trying to avoid for my customers.
With that in mind, I turned it into an “extension” that lives within the core Members Only plugin. It does nothing unless it’s enabled in the Members Only settings.

Once enabled, the extension code loads and it adds a few new settings to the Members Only settings page, allowing you to define which mailing list members should be added to and which tags should be added to those members.

It’s all pretty seamless. Once those few steps are completed, members are automatically added to the Mailchimp mailing list when they purchase a membership. I have a few ideas about allowing changes to a mailing list contact when someone’s subscription expires, is cancelled, etc. Keep an eye out for that.
